STAGE 100

 Return to the BUILD

“Stage 100 see the assembly of a distinctive deck panel with a wide window detail and the end section of the saucer’s ventral phaser array.

NOTE: I will be presenting TWO different paths to build this Enterprise D partwork model. This is because after Stage 58, I completely tore my own model down and started on my Model Remodel journey. However, I have access to a second Enterprise D partwork that is being built in stock form, so I can show both methods here.

  • The normal BUILD section below will show the ‘stock’ way of installing the parts with any tips and tricks I find along the way.
  • The new MODEL REMODEL section will describe the changes I made during this stage including any painting, lighting, electronics, wiring, etc.

Parts

Materials: The Deck Panel L1-01 is metal while the remaining parts are plastic.

Build

Assembling Deck Panel L1-01

Step A

Carefully cut five (5) Escape Pod Covers from their sprues and fit them into these matching openings of Deck Panel L1-01.

Remember, the red line on the Escape Pod Cover should be closer to the wider end of the Deck Panel. And while not shown here, I still recommend using pieces of black electrical tape or aluminum tape to seal in the Dark Windows and Escape Pod Covers to prevent light leak:

Cover the single Cover with Escape Pod Cover Bracket I and secure it into place with one (1) AM screw, as shown.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Cover the remaining Pod Covers with Escape Pod Cover Bracket II and secure it into place with two (2) IM screws, as shown:

Completing Deck Panel L1-01

Step B

Carefully cut eight (8) Dark Windows, five (5) Clear Windows, and the Dark Wide Window from their sprues. Fit these Windows into the back of Deck Panel L1-01, as shown.

The Dark Wide Window fits in the center of this section of windows (arrow below):

Cover the wide section of Windows with Reflector Panel I and the narrow section with Reflector Panel II, then secure both Reflectors to the Panel using three (3) AM screws, as shown:

Fit the posts of the Ventral Phaser Array L01 into the matching holes on top of the Deck Panel:

Secure this Phaser Array into place from below with two (2) DP screws:

That step ends this stage of the stock build. Below you will find the details on what I changed in this stage as part of my Model Remodel.

Model Remodel

Assembling Deck Panel L1-01

  • I processed this Deck Panel in the same way as I have been with my Model Remodel:
    • The windows were replaced with Solarez Thin-Hard UV resin except for the three windows closest to the single Escape Pod Cover
    • The ‘dark’ windows were painted black according to my Window Pattern Guide
    • The three open windows were covered with three glued layers of Speaker Grille Cloth to allow my speaker sound to get out of the Saucer

    • The Escape Pod Covers were sealed in from behind with aluminum tape
    • I removed the silver paint from the Reflector Panel in 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and lightly airbrushed it with white paint to diffuse light
    • I did have to cut down my Reflector Panel I to clear space for the Speaker Grille Cloth ‘window openings’

Here is the result of our Model Remodel changes in this stage:

Thoughts

Another Deck Panel built as many have come before it, but this one with our first Dark Wide Window! The unused Battle Section Lower Right Windows will be installed in the next stage, so keep them nearby.
