Return to the BUILD

“Start by preparing the next deck panel for your lower saucer assembly, then continue to build up the ventral battle section.

NOTE: I will be presenting TWO different paths to build this Enterprise D partwork model. This is because after Stage 58, I completely tore my own model down and started on my Model Remodel journey. However, I have access to a second Enterprise D partwork that is being built in stock form, so I can show both methods here.

  • The normal BUILD section below will show the ‘stock’ way of installing the parts with any tips and tricks I find along the way.
  • The new MODEL REMODEL section will describe the changes I made during this stage including any painting, lighting, electronics, wiring, etc.

Materials: The Deck Panel L1-10 is metal and the other non-electrical parts are plastic.

Assembling Deck Panel L1-10

Step A

Carefully remove four (4) Escape Pod Covers, two (2) Dark Windows, and two (2) Clear Windows from their sprues. Fit three of the Covers and the four Windows into the back of Deck Panel L1-10 as shown.

The fourth Cover will be needed in a later step, so keep it nearby. Remember, the red line on the Escape Pod Cover should be closer to the wider end of the Deck Panel. And while not shown here, I still recommend using pieces of black electrical tape or aluminum tape to seal in the Dark Windows and Escape Pod Covers to prevent light leak:

Fit the Escape Pod Cover Brackets A, Escape Pod Cover Bracket B, and Reflector Panel to the back of Deck Panel L1-10 as shown, then secure the three parts into place with four (4) AM screws.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Fit the two posts of the Ventral Phaser Array L10 into the matching holes on top of Deck Panel L1-10, as shown:

Secure the Phaser Array into place from below with two (2) CP screws:

Step B

Retrieve your Battle Section Lower Front Panel assembly from the previous stage. Fit the fourth Escape Pod Cover into this matching opening with the red line of the Cover facing the outer edge of the panel, as shown.

You may want to glue this Cover down if you find it to be loose fitting:

Place the Front Reflector over the Lower Left Front Windows (and Escape Pod Cover), orienting it to the matching screw posts as shown. Then, insert the free LED (red/black wires) of the center Battle Section Lights cable (93G) into this inner slot (circled) of the Front Reflector.

TIP: While I didn’t know while I was building this stage, the magazine instructions of Stage 101 have the leads of these Front Window LEDs pointing the other direction (towards the front of the Battle Section). You may want consider this as you fit these LEDs and adjust the wires as needed:

As usual, make sure these LEDs are fully seated and locked over the retaining pins inside the Reflector. Note how the leads of the LED need to be gently bent to route around the nearby post of the Battle Section Lower Front Panel assembly.

Next, fit the LED on the yellow/white wires of the new Battle Section Lights cable into this outer slot of the Front Reflector, as shown.

As this Reflector holds the Window panel in place, I also removed the small piece of tape I was using the hold the Windows here:

Secure the Front Reflector to the Front Panel with four (4) BP screws:

That step ends this stage of the stock build. Below you will find the details on what I changed in this stage as part of my Model Remodel.

Working on the Battle Section Lower Front Panel

I removed the silver paint from the Front Reflector in 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and lightly airbrushed it with white paint to diffuse light. As the lighting is centralized, none of the stock LEDs/wiring was used:

Here is the result of our Model Remodel changes in this stage:

With this stage, we have started building the Deck Panels for the port aft ventral Saucer and completed the lighting of our lower front Battle Section assembly. Not too shabby!
